Pictured is a statue of a World War I soldier by Henri Bouchard, with Fort Carre in the background. Fort Carre is a military fort built during the reign of Henry II in the 16th century. It is today classified as an historic monument. The statue is titled Poliu, a word that has come to mean a soldier of the 1914-1918 World War I. There is a legend of the sculptor Henri Bouchard who, after the inauguration of the statue in 1918, committed suicide. The reason, they said, was that he had made a mistake with the figure: the weapon is in the left hand and should be in the right.
