One of the highlights of the 1979 ChicagoFest was the innovative comedy troupe, the Ace Trucking Company seen in this photo as a mock pastor with his devout flock. Fred Willard, left, an alumnus of the trailblazing improvisation factory in Chicago, the Second City, was one of Ace`s founding members. Others in the photo include Patti Deutsch, Paul Zigler, and Michael Mislove. They appeard dozens of times on the `The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson,` and were one of the most renowned comedy groups of the 1960s and 70s. Willard went on to enjoy a rich career in television and film over the ensuing decades. He gained popularity from his films with Christopher Guest: `Best in Show,` `Waiting for Guffman,` and `Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.` One of his last tv gigs was as the father of the character `Phil Dunphy.` Willard, who was an actor, writer, in addition to a comedian, died in Los Angeles, California on May 15, 2020 at the age of 86.
