This is a Fall picture of the iconic ruins of the Temple of Poseidon perched high above the southernmost tip of the Attica Peninsula at Cape Sounion, Greece. The Temple was used by Mariners and others to to seek favors from Poseidon the god of the seas by making animal sacrifices or leaving gifts. The Temple was a typical rectangular hexastyle design with a colonnade on all four sides, 15 of the original Doric Order columns still stand, the Temple was constructed 444-440 BC. The Temple of zposeidon was destroyed in 399 by the army of Emperor Arcadius. This picture was taken on October 20, 2017.
