The lion is a big cat belonging to the Panthera genus and family Felidae. The lions are broadly categorized as two types. One of them is African lions and second one is Asian lions. The African lion now exist only in the sub-Saharan region. The Asian lion found in Mediterranean, India and West Asia.The Asian lion was known as the Persian lion. The lion is the second largest cat species after the tiger. The lions are highly social in nature and live in large groups called pride consisting of several females. The Asiatic lion is smaller than the largest of the African lions, however, is similar to the Central African lion in size. Wild lions survive for about 10 to 14 years.
