Lugu Lake (Chinese: 泸沽湖) is a high mountain plateau lake, 2685 meters above sea level, located 202 km northeast of Lijiang on the border of Sichuan and Yunnan provinces, on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau in China. The inhabitants around the lake are the Mosuo people, a small tribe that is considered a sub clan of Naxi people. The Mosuo currently do not have a written language. Lugu Lake. Mosuo people call it 'Xie Na Mi', it means the mother lake. The elegant wooden boat drifting near the lakeside, it is called 'Zhu Cao Chuan' or the 'pig trough boat' by the local people.
