Buceros bicornis The great hornbill or great Indian hornbill/great pied hornbill, is one of the larger members of the hornbill family. Its impressive size 95–130 cm/37–51 in long, with a 152 cm/60 in wingspan and a weight of 2.15–4 kg/4.7–8.8 lb and colour have made it important in many tribal cultures and rituals. It’s long-lived, living for nearly 50 years in captivity. During the breeding season, female builds a nest in the hollow of a large tree trunk, sealing the opening and remains imprisoned there. Then it relies on the male to bring her food, until the chicks are half developed.
