This 1972 fascinatingly detailed bronze fountain was commissioned for the Grand Hyatt Hotel, San Francisco, and is embedded in the steps on the Stockton Street side of their front entrance. Ruth Asawa, always a child at heart, worked with children from throughout the city, as well as some of her own, as well as her own mother, to make scenes from the city, real and imagined, for the very detailed images on the Fountain. Comprised of 41 individual bas-relief panels, it was announced just the day before her final memorial that this fountain will be preserved and maintained right here.
