The first brewery to open in the small but growing coastal town of Carpinteria California, began in 2001 with Island Brewing. Paul Wright started brewing from his home in the Northern California small town of Novato in 1999 when he got a home brew kit from his wife. As he started winning awards locally, then statewide for his beers, Paul started brewing more, and more. With their daughters in school in Santa Barbara, the couple was familiar with the area, and finally settled themselves in the area. Being able to acquire the old citrus packing facility behind the tracks, it also offered a great view of the beach.
