Sunset vista of the new development area of Flon in downtown Lausanne, Switzerland. A few hundreds of years ago the area in this image used to be a river bed, a natural defence for the medieval city on top of right side hill. It was later transformed into an industrial area in the age of industrialization. Bel-air office tower on the left is one of the controversial landmarks of the city added in 1931 to the city's skyline. In recent years a coordinated effort transformed the former industrial area into a modern, young-culture oriented area as well as an transportation node. The green covered building is the newly added entrance to the subway station of 2nd metro line (M2) connecting the south with the north of the city. HDR image.
