Just as the station wagon or utility vehicle is a body type that can be manufactured by any car company, so is a wood paneled body, know as a Woodie, a design style that can be made by any car company. As a concept, it naturally grew out of its predecessor, the horse drawn wagon. As the industrial revolution advanced into the 20th century and the metal car body was now cheaper, stronger and safer, the wood bodies fell out of favor. It was primarily the American west coast surfer crowd that keep the Woodie alive. This 1946 Ford Woodie Stationwagon is one of those examples.
