Comacchio is, from the landscape and historical point of view, one of the major centers of the Po delta. It originated about two thousand years ago, during its history it was subjected to the power of the Exarchate of Ravenna first, of the Duchy of Ferrara later, for then return to be part of the territories of the Papal States .
