Archangel Michael is one of the most revered saints of the Orthodox Church. But the status of a great figure in the historical and cultural sense, he acquired not only for Christians. The Archangel has followers in Islam and Judaism. Usually Archangel Michael is depicted by iconographers with a spear in his right hand. The left hand holds a spherical mirror - a tool of foresight received by the heavenly Governor from the Lord. Later icons depicted Michael with a spear, a banner, and a date branch. On these icons, the Archangel invariably tramples on Satan, who dares to challenge God. Holy icons of this type depict a cross. Sometimes in the hand of the Archangel you can see a shield and a flaming sword.
