The cannon, formerly known as the snap, is a long-barreled cannon that the projectile leaves at a high initial velocity, travels on a flat projectile trajectory, and strikes a long distance. One of the types of barreled firearms is the oldest device of artillery. During its development, both its weight and the number of its operating staff decreased, but its efficiency, mainly with the use of steel, increased drastically. It is still a type of cannon used today. The making of the cannon barrel itself evolved from the bell casting, initially made by bell casters. Over time, the two crafts separated. The material of the pipe was first made of bronze, then of copper, later of iron, and from the 19th century on steel.
