In 55 BC. Roman troops led by Caesar built an important bridge over the Rhine between today`s Koblenz and Andernach. The city of Koblenz was founded in 8 BC, when the Roman commander Drusus established a military camp. In 49, the Romans built a large bridge, the rest of which are still visible today.nAfter the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the city was conquered by the Frankish and became the seat of the city. After the division of the empire of Charlemagne, the city was under the rule of his son Louis I. In 837, the city was under the rule of Charles II.
