The monument to the 12th Infantry Division of Major General Illarion Vasilievich Vasilchikov was erected by the descendants of the regiments that were part of this division for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Borodino, according to the project of an unknown architect. The division, which was part of the 7th Infantry Corps of General Nikolai Nikolaevich Raevsky, in the general battle with Napoleon`s army occupied a position between Kurgan High Raevsky`s battery and the village of Semenovskoye. That is, the monument to the division stands at the very place where it was deployed before the battle.
