These delightful small plants have flowers that are an intense blue color when they flower in late spring. There are over 400 species of gentians in the world, many of which have small blue flowers. The 5 petals making up the flower are lance-shaped and form a star. The deep blue colors contrast with a white center of the flowers. Spring gentians are one of the most sought-after blue flowers for rock gardens or borders. They only grow to about 3” 7 cm tall but look stunning as they create a sea of rich blues when they flower.
