Butterflies have four stages in their lives: The first stage is the egg, which the adult butterfly lays. The second stage, which turns into larvae or worms. At this stage, the larvae eat a large number of leaves to prepare for the next stage. The third stage is the pupae, in which the worm weaves a cocoon around itself and lives without food for some time. The fourth stage, which is a butterfly and an adult animal with wings, emerges from the cocoon.
