The image IMG_0398 of the female Cape Sparrow Passer melanurus sitting on a branch of a Wisteria was captured in Centurion, Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa on 10.09.20 ` Males are unmistakable with heavy pattern of black about their head. Females may be mistaken for the other species but are much greyer above. Young birds resemble the female. Confined to South Africa and South West Africa. Likes fairly dry country and drier suburbs of towns. Friendly, attached to human settlement. Forms fair-sized flocks when not breeding.
