Tapak dara is an annual shrub that originated in Madagascar, but has spread to various other tropical regions. The scientific name is Catharanthus roseus L. Don. In Indonesia, this ornamental garden plant is known by various names, such as sindapor Sulawesi, copper flower Sundanese, and kembang tapak dårå Javanese. Malaysians are more familiar with it as kemunting cina, staple grass, staple flower, or staple rose beach. In the Philippines it is known as Tsitsirika, in Vietnam as hoa hai dang, in China as Chang chun Hua, in England as Rose Periwinkle, and in Holland as soldaten bloem.
