Tsaritsyn ponds are a complex of ponds in the Orekhovo-Borisovo Severnoye region of Moscow (Southern Administrative District). Tsaritsyn ponds are located on the territory of the Tsaritsyn estate. In the area of ​​ponds there is the State Historical-Architectural Artistic and Landscape Reserve "Tsaritsyno". The ponds themselves were formed after the construction of two dams on the small rivers Gorodnya, Yazvenka and Cherepishka. The water level in the ponds is currently maintained by surface river and groundwater. Water enters the Upper Tsaritsyn pond along the Tsaritsynsky stream (Yazvenka river) and along the Biryulevsky stream (Cherepishka river). The complex of ponds includes the Upper Tsaritsynsky and Lower Tsaritsinsky ponds. The Upper Tsaritsyn Pond covers an area of ​​17 hectares and is located on the Yazvenka River. The average depth of the pond is 3 meters. There are 3 grottoes here. Tradition tells that the grottoes are connected by an underground passage. The lower Tsaritsyn pond is located in the floodplain of the Gorodnya River. The Yazvenka River is a tributary of the Gorodnya River. On the Lower Tsaritsyn pond there is a sickle-shaped pile island. The area of ​​the Lower Tsaritsyn pond is 53 hectares, and its average depth is about 2.5 meters. Fish is found in Tsaritsyn and Borisov ponds. The Tsaritsyn ponds form a single cascade with the Borisov pond, created during the reign of Tsar Boris Godunov. The Tsaritsyn and Borisov ponds are separated by the Shipilov dam. The Tsaritsyn and Borisov ponds are the oldest and largest in terms of area and length in Moscow. Their total area is about 180 hectares. On the banks of the ponds, there are beaches and recreation areas for Muscovites.
