With the emergence of an Orthodox community in the city in 1987, it became necessary to build a large stone church. It so happened from ancient times in Russia that many spiritual buildings were built on donations from the people. Fundraising has begun for the development of documentation and the construction of a temple in Surgut. At the end of January 1991, His Grace Dimitri, Bishop of Tobolsk and Tyumen, on the southern outskirts of the city, consecrated a site for the construction of a new Orthodox church.
