Cottage Row is a single, narrow block long stretch of Italianate and Stick homes built in San Francisco between 1870-1885, as an investment for developers John Smyth and Charles Taylor. They also had the idea of calling it Cottage Row, and was always listed as such ever since 1886. That is except during the period of the 1930`s, when most of the residents who lived here were Japanese, so it was referred to as `Japan Street`, until their unfortunate interment.
