Lillafüred is the most beautiful biosphere resort in Hungary, located in the Bükk National Park in northwestern Hungary, on the shores of the artificial lake Hamori.
The origin of the city`s name is very romantic. At the end of the 19th century, Count Andras Bethlen, Minister of Agriculture, decided to found a resort in this magical place and named it after his niece Erzbeta Vai, whom his friends called Lilla. Count Bethlen also built the Palace Hotel, which is the hallmark of the city. A cozy park with waterfalls and grottoes was laid out around the palace.
