Detail of the Triumph of Death and the immediately adjoining wall paintings, the Last Judgment with Hell and the Life of the Anchorites or Thebaid are attributed to to Buonamico di Martino da Firenze, detto il Buffalmacco. These frescoes are dated after the year of the Black Death, 1348, are considered one of the finest and most powerful artworks of the Trecento. The Campo Santo, also known as Camposanto Monumentale, monumental cemetery, or Camposanto Vecchio, old cemetery, is situated at the northern edge of the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy.
