Pictured is the Texas Historical Commission Marker for Quanah Parker, located in the Forth Worth Stockyards in Texas. It stands next to his bronze statue by Jack Bryant. Quanah Parker was the last chief of the Comanche nation. As a chief he refused to sign the 1867 Medicine Lodge Treaty, instead leading raids in Texas and Mexico for 7 more years. In May 1875 after a harsh winter he brought his band to the reservation at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and laid down his arms. Afterward he became a liason between his people and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. He grew rich from investments. In 1909, Parker and 38 members of his tribe rode in full regalia as part of what is now the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo.
