Tower Bridge is a bridge located over the Thames in London. It was built between 1888 - 1894 and connects the south with the northern city. The total length of the bridge is 244 m, 65 m pillars reach Tower Bridge was designed in Gothic style by Horace Jones. On the north bank of the Thames is London's Tower (Tower of London) and St. Katharine Docks. On the south bank is City Hall. Tourists frequently confuse the London Bridge Tower Bridge (London Bridge), which is the bridge next to the flow direction of the Thames. An urban legend says that in 1968, Robert McCulloch, who bought and rebuilt London Bridge in Lake Havasu, thought of buying Tower Bridge. This rumor was denied by McCulloch and Ivan Luckin, who sold the bridge. Tower Bridge is both a bridge and a suspension bridge. The bridge has two towers that are linked to higher levels by birds, which are designed to resist horizontal forces exerted by the suspended sections of the bridge on the dry side of the tower. Vertical components of forces in the suspended sections and vertical reactions of the two bridges are supported by the two robust towers. Pivots for tilting and machinery required to open the bridge are housed at the base of each tower. Color current bridge dates from 1977 when it was painted red, white and blue in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the ascent to the throne. Original color was chocolate brown.
