Pictured are Robbia terracottas of the Annunciation on the Tower of Marsili, built by the Marsili family in the 12th century. In the nineteenth century the tower belonged to the goldsmith Giuseppe Sorbi, who decorated the facade with Robbia terracottas which are still seen today. The tower is located the heart of Florence, Italy. The glazed terracotta technique was developed around 1440 by Luca della Robbia. The annunciation depicts the angel Gabriel informing the Virgin Mary that she would conceive a son by the power of the Holy Spirit to be called Jesus.
