In Kootenay National Park in British Columbia, Canada there is an area called Paint Pots. The area is famous for its water holes or orchre beds that in ancient times were used by the Indian and First Nations people to make red ochre for paints and painting. The ground is very rich on pigments and the colours varies between shades of yellow, red, orange, and brown.The area is popular among hikers and tourists and a great attraction for people passing through the Kootenay National Park en route to Banff, Lake Louise, or Radium Hot Springs.
