This Ore Mill is on exhibition at the Superstition Mountain Lost Dutchman Museum. It was built in 1914 and was originally used in Bland, New Mexico, where it was disassembled and then moved to the present location. Stamp ore mills are important mining equipment used from the mid 1800s to the early 1900s. They are basically huge mortars and pestles. The pestles use lift-and-fall motions to reduce the size of ore to a fine sand, which is taken from the mortar box as slurry for further processing - to extract valuable metals.
