The Great Egret is a large heron with all-white plumage. It can be distinguished from other white egrets by its yellow bill and black legs and feet. The Great Egret is found in Asia, Africa, the Americas, and southern Europe. It builds tree nests in colonies close to water. It is a member of the heron family, Ardeidae. The Black-headed Gull is a small gull that breeds in much of the Palearctic including Europe and also in coastal eastern Canada. The summer adult has a dark brown hood, pale grey body, black tips to the primary wing feathers, and red bill and legs. The hood is lost in winter, leaving just two dark spots. It is a bold and opportunistic feeder, eating insects, fish, seeds, worms, scraps, and carrion in towns, or invertebrates in ploughed fields.
