The alligator get his name from the Spanish el lagarto, which means the lizard. He is definitely a large lizard. The record size for an alligator was 19 feet, 2 inches, nearly 2000 lbs, and was harvested in Louisiana in 1890. This particular specimen was waiting for his pool to be filled with water after a good cleaning. They eat just about anything they can find, including the unwary human. They can live on land and water. They make dens on the waters edge that go under the bank.
