In the "Carminiello ai Mannesi" area, near Via Duomo, it is possible to observe the imposing structures of a Roman building, within the area delimited to the north by via Tribunali and to the south by via San Biagio dei Librai.It is a multi-level construction, quite complex, its main structures dating back to the end of the 1st century AD, but which presents elements attributable to different phases, the oldest of which belong to the Republican age. Among these, of particular interest is a rectangular apsidal room, with a black and white tile floor, belonging to the lower level, perhaps part of a house. Incorporated, in the imperial age, in the foundations of a large building with vaulted rooms, the structure developed on at least two floors: the lower one, illuminated by skylights, was occupied by service rooms the upper one hosting the thermal complex, of which part of the hydraulic pipes and a series of rooms with marble tubs located in the southern wing of the building have been identified. Among the subsequent alterations, for the late imperial age, we should point out the probable construction of a portico along the western façade and the adaptation of two of the rooms on the lower floor into a mithraeum, whose intended use is proven by the presence of a stucco relief depicting the god Mithras in the act of sacrificing the bull. These transformations, more profound starting from the 5th century AD, culminated in the Middle Ages with the incorporation of the Roman structures into the religious building which was then destroyed.
