The current Old Town was established over 700 years ago, after Lublin received city rights (August 15, 1317).The Old Town Square in Lublin has a well-preserved original architectural layout. There are impressive tenement houses that line four frontages. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Lublin was of great importance on European trade routes. It was particularly noisy during the four annual fairs, which attracted merchants from all over the world - Turks, Persians, Italians, French and Hungarians, among others. This period in the history of Lublin is called the golden age.In 1575, a great fire in the city consumed many wooden buildings standing at the market square, and brick tenement houses began to be built in their place.
