Pictured is an African leopard resting on the ground in the daytime shade in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. Leopards are mainly active from dusk till dawn and will rest for most of the day and some hours at night. A solitary and territorial animal, it hunts alone primarily at night. It is a carnivore preferring medium-sized prey. More than one-hundred prey species have been identified. The binomial name is Panthera pardus and the subspecies is pardus. The photograph was taken from a safari jeep stationed at the Atzaro Okavango Camp.
