The hollyhock (Alcea rosea L.) is a plant in the Malvaceae family and the Alcea genus. It is known as the Dragon Boat Festival Flower because it blooms around the Dragon Boat Festival each year. The plant can grow up to 2 meters tall, with stems and branches densely covered with stellate hairs and bristles. The leaves are nearly round and heart-shaped, sparsely covered with stellate soft hairs on the upper side and stellate long stiff hairs or woolly hairs on the underside. The inflorescence is terminal with single or double petals, and flowers come in colors such as purple, pink, red, and white. The fruit is disc-shaped, covered with short soft hairs, and has longitudinal grooves. The seeds are kidney-shaped. The flowering period is from February to August. Due to its height of up to about 10 feet and its predominantly red flowers, it is also known as Ten-foot Red.
