Although the Chinese word for tea only goes back to the eighth century, there is evidence of their drinking it way before this time. By comparison, the earliest consumption of coffee only goes back to 15th century Yemen. Like many other things, as their consumption spread around the world, so did the ways they were consumed. And the way they were consumed also dictated how it was served, with sugar and creamer. Sets were fashioned to more easily and fashionably bring the sugar and creamer to the settings.
