This pond was created by damming up spring water from the Musashino Plateau and was once called Sensokugo no Oike (Large Pond of Senzokugo) and was also used for irrigation. It came to be called Senzokuike (Senzoku Pond) because Saint Nichiren washed his feet in the pond when he stopped off on his way from Minobu to Hitachi to recuperate from an illness. The pond is one of the largest in Tokyo, covering an area of ??about 40,000 square meters, and is full of attractions such as the rich nature of the four seasons, historical sites, and human figures.
