Watermelon is an annual herbaceous plant from the pumpkin family (Cucurbitaceae), originating from tropical areas of Africa. It is also cultivated in other areas for its sweet, juicy, edible fruit. In terms of percentage, the composition of the fruit contains the most water and sugar. Many believe that watermelon is a fruit because it is mostly consumed without heat treatment (which is a characteristic of fruits), but since it belongs to the pumpkin family, it is biologically a vegetable. The most famous countries where watermelons are grown in Europe are Serbia, Greece and Macedonia.
