Known for its rich history and cultural significance, Xichang was originally part of Xichang County and serves as the capital of the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture. The city spans an area of 2,651 square kilometers and encompasses 37 towns and townships. Notably, it is home to one of China's three major satellite launch centers, earning it the nickname "Space City."
