Claude Oscar Monet was an important French painter. He is considered the founder of the artistic movement Impressionism, whose name is derived from his Impression, soleil levant (Impression, sunrise).He became best known for his carbon cartoons. Later he met the painter Eugène Boudin, who discovered Monet s painting talent and became his teacher. He taught him how to use oil paints, and also how to use plein air techniques (from French en plein air - in the open air) in painting.
