Flora Day. Dancing, or faddying, on Furry Day through the streets and gardens of Helston, Cornwall. An ancient ceremony performed every year in the month of May. Flora Day, also known as Furry Day, is a spring festival in Helston, Cornwall that celebrates the end of winter and the arrival of spring: History: The origins of Flora Day are unclear, but academics believe it's one of the oldest customs in the UK. Some theories suggest it's connected to pagan fertility rites and the forces of nature. Others tell a legend about a fiery dragon that dropped a stone on what is now Angel Yard, and the townspeople celebrated their deliverance by dancing in each other's homes.
