Ina Coolbrith was many things, from her birth, as the niece of Joseph Smith, the founder of The Mormon Church. Born March 1841 in Nauvoo, Illinois, she made her way to San Francisco. She became a very good, and prolific writer and poet, befriending all of the local artist of the time, not just writers, but painters and photographers as well. Although she was Californias very first Poet Laureate, 30 June 1915, she might be the first Poet Laureate in America, but not the first American Poet Laureate, as the dedication plaque claims. The park climbs all the way up to the very top of Russian Hill, so named for the Russian sailors who had been found buried there. As enjoyed with spectacular views 4 December 2024.
