Francisco reservoir was a 4.5 acre (1.8 ha) reservoir, San Francisco very first reservoir which opened in 1860, and put completely out of service in 1966. The Cities Board of Supervisors then transferred the land to the Recreation and Parks Department in 2014. After much fundraising, Francisco Park opened on 27 April 2022, the largest public park to open in San Francisco since 1983. As a park, it has a children's play area, and now, dog play area as well. In honor of the former, historic reservoir, parts of it has been saved with explanatory signs, and a section of drought tolerant plants and trees, as well as a very attractive, 450 foot (140m) long staircase on the Hyde Street side, with a time capsule near the foot of it. As enjoyed 4 to 5 December 2024.
