General view of Covilhã city, in the basis of Serra da Estrela, (Mounts of Estrela), the higher mounts in Portugal. Traditionally known by its famous textile industry, with the crisis in this sector generated by the integration of Portugal in European Union Covilhã became an important academic hub. The city is located in the Beira Interior (Inner Beira) in a valley known as Cova da Beira where are produced the best cherries in Portugal and even all over the Europe.
