The April 25th Bridge spans the Tejo River, some 2km long, it joins the Portugeuse capital with the Almada district. The bridge is a two deck span. The upper houses six lanes of road traffic, while the lower deck has two railway lines. It is likened to the Golden Gate Bridge in the United States. It is named after the national freedom day, upon which, in 1974, the peaceful Carnation Revolution ousted the dictatorship of the Estado Novo regime. The bridge was inaugurated 6th August 1966.
