Butterfly urticaria on the flower. Butterfly urticaria (lat. Aglais urticae, Nymphalis urticae) is a day butterfly from the family nymphalidae (Nymphalidae), species of the genus Aglais. The specific epithet name — urticae, comes from the word urtica (nettle) and due to the fact that nettle is one of the food plants of the caterpillars of this species. Widespread in Europe and also in Asia Minor, Central Asia, Siberia, China, Mongolia, Japan, North Korea and Vietnam. It is found everywhere in Russia, in Ukraine, except the far North, in the Baltic States, Belarus, Moldova, Caucasus, Transcaucasia, Kazakhstan. Urticaria has also been observed in Kamchatka, in the Magadan region and Yakutia. Found in parks, meadows, edges of forests, not only in the valleys, but high up in the mountains. In the Alps was discovered at an altitude of about 3000 m, and in the Himalayas at an altitude above 5000 m above sea level.
