On the edge of one of the hot springs at Yellowstone National Park there was this interesting bacterial mat. The bacteria had deposited in these little spires and were bunched up together to create a platform. As the hot spring water flowed through it I guess it killed off some bacteria causing these gaps. The gaps made interesting textures for the image.
