Wisteria is very hardy and fast growing. It can grow in fairly poor-quality soils but prefers fertile, moist well drained soil. It thrives in full sun. Wisteria can grow into a mound when unsupported but is at it`s best when allowed to climb up a tree, wall or pergola. They climb by twining their stems either clockwise or counterclockwise. Before planting in a home garden, you should familiarize yourself with this plant. It is very invasive and will take over your entire garden. It demands space. It takes five to six years before flowering. Flowers are purple, violet-blue, pink or white. In most areas it flowers in the springtime.
