The worship of Our Lady of the Fountain dates back to the 10th century, when the Benedictines of the Badia of St. Peter of the Earth built the church in the vicinity of an important public fountain. The spring waters flowed through a subterranean aqueduct to meet the water needs of the monastery and the farmhouse.
